The Benefits of Tutoring

The benefits of tutoring are far reaching, from improved self-confidence to more effective study habits. We’ve found that, after consistent tutoring, students generally exhibit improvements in:

  • Subject matter knowledge

  • Attitudes about learning and specific subjects

  • Performance at school

  • Effective study habits

  • Self-directed or independent learning

  • Confidence in asking questions

  • Social and subject matter engagement

  • Responsibility for completion of assignments and coursework

Ad Alta Approach

We understand that the learning process is not one-size-fits-all. Ad Alta Tutoring provides a customized student experience using the following approach:

Ad Alta helps finds the right tutor for each student

We match tutors with students based on the student learning style, personality, and academic needs. We offer all new clients a complimentary 30-minute consultation to review student goals, needs, and expectations. Following an initial assessment, we design a plan to support specific academic goals and achieve learning success. Ad Alta tutors undergo an extensive interview process prior to working with students. If a tutor is not the right fit at any point, we will work with you to select a different tutor.

Ad Alta empowers success with customized learning experiences

At Ad Alta Tutoring, our goal is to ensure personal and academic success for our students. We are most fulfilled as teachers when our students feel confident, knowledgeable, and empowered. Since learning is not one-size-fits-all, we tailor teaching strategies and lesson plans for each student. Tutors encourage independence and use strategies to promote student accountability and confidence. Students are held accountable for actively participating in sessions, completing assignments, and keeping their tutor informed of classroom expectations and performance.

Ad Alta communicates openly with students, parents, and schools

We establish strong relationships between the student, parents, and teachers, as appropriate, to best support student learning and success. Ad Alta tutors provide weekly lesson notes and maintain open lines of communication to discuss progress and shifting goals. We often work directly with schools to better understand student curricula and requirements. Ad Alta welcomes feedback from students and parents because we want to improve our own processes to best support our students.

Daniela Villar del Saz, Director and Tutor

Daniela has a degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Maryland and has been teaching for fifteen years. Since graduating in 2000, she has worked with individuals as well as groups throughout the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. She began as a Montgomery County substitute teacher and eventually became a language instructor at the International Language Institute in D.C.. Her time spent as a student teacher for nursery school to second grade students reinforced her passion for bringing fun into the classroom and inspiring others to enjoy learning.

In 2004, Daniela became a full-time private tutor in order to give individual students more attention. This career change also allowed her the time to mentor young girls and become involved in a volunteer reading program at the Community of Hope’s non-profit health clinic. Since creating Ad Alta Tutoring, she has been thoroughly enjoying her experiences working with local families, schools, and institutions.

Daniela grew up in a trilingual household in Italy and has since taken up several other languages. Having studied new languages herself, she is able to visualize the learning process from a student's perspective. Students respond well to her simple mantra — that learning should be enjoyable. She uses a wide range of creative approaches and activities to keep students engaged and excited about learning.

Daniela tutors in Spanish, Italian, and English as a Second Language (ESL). She also helps younger students with general subjects such as math and reading. In her free time, Daniela enjoys listening to music, rescuing animals, gardening, collecting Victorian pins, riding her vintage bicycle, and doing crossword puzzles.
